PE at Roundhill
Physical Education (PE):
PE is an important subject for us at Roundhill; regular physical exercise contributes to good physical and mental health, which builds team spirit and helps children to be in a positive state of mind for learning across the curriculum. Participation in sport inspires pupils to succeed in competitive events and other physically-demanding activities. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Our intent is to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
We provide a wide range of sporting activities to enrich our PE curriculum, and to help it go beyond the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. As well as regular PE lessons and opportunities to be taught weekly by fully qualified PE specialists, we make good use of external coaches and visitors to inspire physical exercise. Additional opportunities are built in across the week to promote physical activity (eg Active Mile, skipping, Go Noodle…). Having our own swimming pool, as well as a local, larger pool enables us to offer swimming to all children from Reception to Y6
A range of extra-curricular provision supplements the opportunities for children to engage in sports
